Although Kazakhstan is a majority Muslim country, there are Christian Churches, including Roman and Orthodox Catholic churches. On Good Friday, we attended the Stations of the Cross observance in the Roman Catholic Church in Atyrau with an Irish Catholic Expat friend. The second picture is of the Orthodox Catholic Church near the main square on the European side of the Ural River. The Orthodox Easter is a week later than the western celebration. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is officially recognized in Kazakhstan with branches in Astana and Almaty.
